Before reaching for another modifier, I walk through the location and watch the subject move. Window light changes quickly, but it also gives skin, fabric and expression a shared logic. I look for a transition between soft and directional light, then build the frame around that transition.
A portrait session becomes more generous when the technical decisions disappear from the person's attention. Simple instructions, quiet pauses and enough time for a real expression usually create more than complicated posing.
